I think we all have ridiculous vet stories.. Here is a couple more.
I received a phone call from a friend of mine from the GSDCW, who sold a puppy
to a woman who practically lived next door to me. I live in a very
rural farming community, so this was quite the coincidence. She said this
woman was told by a vet in our area that the puppy was terribly dysplastic and
needed a double hip replacement. This particular vet, unbeknownst to my
friend, has an awful reputation, and I said I'd be happy to take a look at the
pup. OMG! This was a beautiful 1 1/2yr old, solid black german bitch who,
despite the "terrible" dysplasia, was running around my farm like a lunatic. I
told the woman right away that I doubted the diagnosis and asked her to get a
copy of her x-rays. A few days later she came over with the films and we put
them up on the window. Even I could see this dog wasn't dysplastic at all. I
took the films to my vet and he said she'd OFA with no problems. At 2 she got
an OFA Good!
Now a woman I sold a pup to many years ago called to tell me she "thinks"
the ball joint of the puppy was out of the socket because there was a bone
sticking out of the backside of the pup (still under the skin, of course). I
thought she was nuts, but drove to her house to take a look for myself. For
real!! There was a bone sticking out and I freaked! This puppy was still
jumping from one couch to the other, so I though it just can't be... I went to
the vet with them completely fearing the worst. I couldn't figure out how
something like this could happen unless there was no hip socket or
something. Before doing any x-rays or anything, the vet said, "yup, that's the
ball joint and it's because of his rear angulation." I was immediately
irritated but also very glad I went to the vet with these people because I had
a little "discussion" about angulation not being the automatic cause of
hip dysplasia. It was nice to have
the puppy buyer there watching this and listening. I honestly thought there
WAS a problem with this pup, but I just can't stand the angulation being blamed
before any tests are done, you know? Why does angulation have to be the
immediate cause everytime? After everything was said and done, the pup had
great hips! No one was more shocked than I, let me tell you! The vet said the
puppy suffered a trauma consistent with being hit by a car, falling down
stairs, or maybe getting a leg stuck in the fence, etc. It WAS NOT due to
being angulated! They did surgery and that dog is still running around now at
7 years old! These people even bought another pup from me a couple years after
this incidence.
Oh and my favorite... I sold a show prospect to a woman in MN who called after
her vet appointment to tell me that I must have sold her a "good one" cuz her
vet said to send the "cripple" back to the breeder!! The pup was a very
angulated 3-4 month old pup, but the woman was a GSD person. Imagine if this
was a "pet" person? It's so frustrating because, as soon as a vet makes an
ignorant, uninformed comment, us breeders are WRONG, period! I completely
agree with Amy and Kathy, too. I've ran out of patience for pet people also.

Yup. No matter how careful I screen, there seems to be one set of "problem
parents" per litter. It can be years later, things may have been going
swimmingly, cards, e-mails, pics exchanged but all it takes is a raised
eyebrow
(let alone a goofy diagnosis!), from a vet or a youngster that's rambunctious
and with the speed of light the relationship changes it's all the breeder's
fault.
Like Amy my tolerance for "stupid" grows less as the years pass:) Just
think how we'll feel in ten years!!!!

nice people. I went to their house and taped his ears when he was 4-1/2 months
old. I called three times in the next month to see if they were up or if
they needed taping again. Each time I was told his ears were fine. I get a
call from them when he is 8-1/2 months old. Rolf's ears are down and our vet
said that you sold us a defective puppy and we want you to take him to an ear
specialist and pay for it. I said he just needs his ears taped again and why
did you not call when before now? They got stupid to put it in a nice way
with me. Everyone who is reading this who knows me knows that I have NO
patience
for that. They were yelling at me on the phone. I said just bring my puppy
back home and I will give you your money back. They brought him home, I
taped his ears and they were fine. At Christmas time I sent them a card with a
picture of Rolf with his beautiful ears UP that I had done at a
dog show. I have no patience for ignorant pet puppy people and as I get
older my patience grows shorter. That is one reason that I have not had a
litter
of puppies in almost five years and I do not miss it at all. Rolf's parents
were Harley and Ashley who NEVER needed their ears taped.

ligaments and possibly the onset of early arthritis.
Sounds to me like he's cow-hocked? Anyone out there that can comment?
This is an 8 month old male puppy. I should add that these same jerks
over-rotated his hips and told the owners he had severe dysplasia - no xrays
taken.
When they went back for films, his hips were perfect, so they came up with
this nonsense.
The owners are complete dog novices - first time dog owners in adult their
adult lives, and they are in their 40s. Bought a perfectly normal, strong,
healthy, active and happy 8-week-old puppy from a litter of 7 in May.
