Diane,
I have been using Dr. Jean Dodds' (of Hemopet) vaccination schedule for
nearly 3 years. This is the 2006 AAHA Canine Vaccine Guidelines for the
Veterinary Practice (which can be googled). Most often referred to as
"minimal vaccination protocol". The BRAND of vaccine is VERY important!
MLV Distemper/Parvo only (Intervet Progard Puppy) at 9 weeks, 12 weeks,
16-20 weeks, final booster at 1 yr.
3 yr Rabies Vaccine no sooner than 6 mos (my Vet will only give 1 yr
Rabies as the first vaccine, but 3 yr Rabies is given thereafter) Rabies
vaccine should be given 3-4 weeks before or after any other vaccine - not
in combination.
These are considered core vaccines, others such as Corona, Lymes, etc
may be used for certain areas but not generally recommended.

Subject: Puppy vacinations
An acquaintance's four month old puppy has contracted parvo. I know
that the puppy had all of its shots. My GSD mentor also lost a four
month old puppy to parvo years ago. I think that the mother's antibodies
are interfering with the shots. I'm also thinking that puppies should
get there shots later because of this interference. What do you guys
think? What shot protocol do you use? Do you give lepto, corona, and if
so when? Thanks.
