What do you think is a fair price for a pup? I think that there are some
breeders out there that are asking way too much for a pup, and it is not the

At break time, at work, this subject came because a co-worker got a pup 2
weeks ago. (Not a GSD.) A Shih-Tzu pup, and she paid 700.00 for a pet.

Whatever the market will bear and it's going to be different in different
areas of the country. It's not up to me to say what "I think" or what is "too
much" or "unreasonable" or what you refer to as being "highway robbery".

Obviously, we look at things like the quality of the animals, depth of
quality in the pedigree, health certifications and then you have all of the
costs
associated with breeding, raising, caring for, maintain the litter, and
obviously we all have criteria we expect the buyer to meet before they even get
 a
foot in the door, but in a transaction involving a puppy, the owner sets the
price and the "shopper" can either accept the price (and terms), or look
elsewhere. If that happens too frequently and the breeder still has puppies
past a certain age, if they are smart, they'll lower the price. If, on the
other hand, they have all of their deposits in when the puppies are a week old
and they are turning people away, they'll raise the price the next time they
have a litter.

It's an individual call but unless the price is so low that you'd have to
wonder how the puppy was fed, wormed and immunized, I leave it alone.
