I have not read the 2010 contract, but to me it appears that Purina is donating
the funds and we can use them the way we choose.
From the contract:
â??exhibitor support in the amount of $15,250 to the Club. The intention of
the cash stipend is to help the club to support the exhibitors experience
through enhanced hospitality and show services.â??
I support the fact that we the board, representing our membership continue to
support the Futurity trophies for our Regional Clubs who commit the energy,
time and expense of running our regional futurities. Many regional clubs would
opt out of bidding for a futurity if the trophy cost was not covered. They
just do not have it today. It also gives Purina more bang for the buck as
their advertisement is at our national specialty and all of our regional
Futurity weekends across this country. We want to continue receiving these
funds and if we show that we use the funds to support and recognize many events
within our breed and club, their generous support may continue.
The clubs putting on the 2011 and just bide for the 2012 futurity commitment
did so expecting support for the trophies. If we have any thought of
rebuilding our membership's trust in this board and future boards, I believe we
need to hold to this commitment whether we take it from the Purina funds or the
general treasury.
I speak for myself, but you know where I stand. In this economic environment
when many cannot financially support their local clubs but are giving of their
time because of the love of our dog and still believe in our clubs, we cannot
pull this support. It is in times like this that few of have seen in a
lifetime that we must stand and support our membership. Let us not forget, it
is the reason they elected us. This is how we make a difference.

So this means that the Futurity Trophies will be paid for the 2010 Futurities
and the clubs will not be billed for the trophies?

Club will agree to do the items required in order to receive the donation from
Purina. It specifies the date and location of the National for that year.
The 2006 Purina National Specialty Sponsorship Agreement stated that the Club
will receive â??Exhibitor support in the amount of $15,000 to the Club. (The
intention of the cash stipend is to help the Club support the regional futurity
trophies, welcome dinner, and exhibitorsâ?? experience through enhanced
hospitality and show services.).â?? The 2010 Purina Specialty Sponsorship
Agreement which I received (2008 and 2009 were received by the previous
President Gail Hardcastle) stated the following: â??exhibitor support in the
amount of $15,250 to the Club. The intention of the cash stipend is to help
the club to support the exhibitors experience through enhanced hospitality and
show services.â?? There was no mention of anything regarding Futurity
Trophies. Since I did not have a copy of the 2006 agreement at the time I
received the 2010 Agreement, it was a concern as to the financing of the
Futurity Trophies. In 2009 the $15,250 received from the Purina National
Specialty Sponsorship Agreement was used to pay for the Regional Futurity
trophies and the streaming video. We have already paid for the trophies in 2010
and, prior to leaving for California, I contacted the sales representative for
our area to see if Purina might increase its donation in 2011. I also informed
Purina of our upcoming events in 2013. I have not yet received a reply
concerning 2011.
Neither I nor anyone else has changed any of the wording in the Purina
Agreement. This Agreement is written by Purina. Purina states what will be
donated to the GSDCA, Inc. and what it can be used for as well as stipulating
what is expected from the Club in return for that donation.
Concerning Carol Mooreâ??s statement about â??Hopefully still your futurity
chairmanâ?? â?? of course Carol is still the futurity chairman. Naturally I
would have preferred had she called me to discuss her concerns rather than
posting them to a list. Carol has lots of enthusiasm and good ideas and has
been working hard since she took over. I hope she will continue in the
position for a long time to come.
