Whep loved to dive down to the bottom of the pool. We had to find a ball
that would sink, so he would run as fast as he could, jump out as far as
possible, and head for the bottom, where he would pick up the ball and bring it
to
whoever threw it.
He loved water. His best day was under Pearl in the rain. He opened up to
another level. I remember having dinner with Ed Barritt one night and he said,
"The best shoulder I ever saw was your dog in bred by in Sacramento." Tedi
and I couldn't figure out who he was talking about, and as we continued to
discuss it, we realized he was talking about a show 13 years prior, and it was
Whep. He was entered in Bred-By by mistake.
We had always heard that Ed wanted to put up the open dog if he could. Twyla
was upset, but we went ahead. Then when we came back into winners, after two
times around I heard Ed point to me and say, "Go to one". So, I went to the
front where Art Sinclair was on the Open dog, and said, "No, Evan, he said,
"You"re the one."
I didn't believe Art, but as I looked up, there was Ed, bringing the
Winner's Dog Ribbon out to me.
Just one more memory, and reason I should not be handling dogs.
