I hope that the List has some answers. I have a 9 year old that approximately 8-9 weeks ago began limping in the front. When I checked her I saw a small open sore on the inside of the foot pad ( non-weight bearing ) measuring approximately 1/4 inch. It appeared as thought she had scrape the inside part of the pad with something sharp. I did not notice any blood around and was surprised but the wound was raw.I had not noticed her excessively licking the area prior but she has since. Anyhow, I treated it locally but it would not heal. My regular vet was out and so we took her to a vet in the area who felt that it was traumatic in origin. The vet put her on antibiotics, took x-rays to make sure there were no other causes for her limping and told us to continue the local wound care. The area quieted down a bit but still would not heal. She kept licking.Ten days ago we took her to our regular vet who placed her on antibiotics and told us to continue the local treatment and keep her foot pad wrapped and cover ( which of course has been difficult at best). The wound has enlarged a bit and of course is not healing. I need your collective experience. I have just recently read about a " non-healing lick granuloma"....could this be it..... as a surgeon, whenever I have a non-healing wound I always worry about cancer.....Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
