[ SHOWGSD-L ] Neutered puppies

Hi All,
I got an interesting call today. The folks wanted to know if my pups had
been neutered yet. I was taken aback by that question. Evidently, they had
called a "Rescue" group that had two 8 wk old male pups avail. Already
neutered.
I do know that Animal reg gives out a spay/neuter certificate when they place
pups but I have never heard of neutering a pup at such a young age.Is that a
common practice? To neuter pups at that age?
