Armstrong makes a vinyl product with a 25 year guarantee. It comes in planks
like a
laminate floor but is much easier to install. It is a floating floor,
waterproof,
comes in many finishes (wood, tile, etc.), it has a bit of texture to the
surface
and is not slippery. It's fairly thick so it has a bit of cushioning.
I used a wood finish pattern and installed over 500 sq. ft. it in a
kitchen/dining
area in a day. It took another day to install the trim. When it was done,
everyone
thought it was a wood floor.
Home Depot has some of the patterns available in the warehouse, with many more
that
can be special ordered. It is not terribly expensive.

I need everyone's help. Now that we have 4 dogs (1 GSD and 3 Cardigans) and
light beige carpet, I have decided to take the plunge and replace my carpet
with something that is easier to clean. Oops have 2 cats too.
We moved here 6 yrs. ago. In our old house, I ripped up carpet to expose
the hardwood floors and put vinyl floor covering down. Now that I'm ready
to do this again, there are so many choices and it's very confusing. (read
Consumer's Reports)
What I want: A washable surface that resists scratches and is easy on your
feet/joints, plus is quiet when dogs are walking across it. Something that
is not slippery when wet, resists stains and moisture. Tall order I know. I
have some hardwood (kitchen) and one room vinyl, but the hardwood does
scratch easily and if it gets wet, it needs wiped up immediately.
