Dear Carolyn - I am glad the vet used the words "more than likely" and
"controversial" - I believe that if it aint broke . . .then don't fix it.
And, like everything else in life, different EXPERT repro vets have
different takes. I, as others, go along with the GURU (several levels above
a "Master") of canine reproduction, Dr. Hutchinson in Ohio. He has written
many and widely publicized articles on reproduction and mycoplasma and his
view is the opposite of your veterinarian on this subject.
I go to dog shows, send bitches out across the country for breedings, breed
to a boy in my yard, and RARELY (very rarely) have misses & the misses are,
I believe, timing. I have, in the past, bred two bitches at the same time,
thinking one might not take, and both always do ! Have never tested for
mycoplasma - wait - yes I did - once & it came back "light growth" & I
didn't treat her & she conceived.
