I agree with everything Marcia has said, although I don't believe those are the reasons the AKC are going to allow mixed breeds. They are not so altruistic. THE AKC NEEDS MONEY. What better new venue than from the pockets of those people who have rescued, saved, bought <?> mixed breed dogs and puppies. These people have cash and cash is what the AKC needs. Penny in NY $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ I have another take on the entry of mixed breeds into the AKC. I don't see that the AKC is compromising the purebred dog by "allowing" mixed breeds to compete in companion events. I think it will give other living creatures a chance at a better life with some generous people adopting them from a shelter. I don't see any threat to the purebred dog because of this. I will continue to show my purebred dogs in the Companion events and, who knows, eventually a mixed breed may join my pack and show also. I always have room in my heart for one more to share my love.
