There is rarely a perfect solution to any problem, but some are better than
others. All Fortune 500 corporations now put their quarterly and annual
earnings conferences on the Internet in sound files for their shareholders
and interested investors to hear, and seem to manage ok. The recordings are
immediate, no delays, no rumors. There would certainly be a learning curve,
but I do think we could handle it.
Maybe we should do a video recording and put it on YouTube, so we could see
as well as hear. That was good enough for the recent Presidential debates
for the upcoming US primaries.
In any case, it is a decision that the Board is entitled to make, after
getting to see how it works. We never got there, although it was all ready
to try, and it would have been a resource to all Board members in evaluating
the Minutes draft of the April meeting, instead of arguing about what did or
did not happen.

We all know that is a rhetorical question. The problem is not in the fact
the meetings are public anyway. Understanding a meeting from listening to
tapes when you were not present at the meeting is far different from being
in attendance at the meeting to hear what is going on.
