So do purebred dogs. I do rescue and there are just as many pure bred dogs on the street and tied in back yards with no medical care as there mixes. Spending money for a dog does not mean the family will value the dog more. How many people spend hundreds of dollars on trinkets and gagets that are thrown away a year or two down the line. "If you get it for free it has no value" ???? This has nothing to do with how dogs are viewed. Our society as a whole views dogs as a commodity that is bought, sold, traded etc. and when no longer convenient thrown away no matter what the cost was. This is why so many medical issues go untreated, after all, why spend the money, it is only a dog. And, in my many years of rescue we do see more purebred dogs in the shelters with medical problems than we do mixed breeds. In the last year in my rescue of GSDs we have treated or seen heartworm, Parvo, Perianal fistulas, a dog with torsion (Died), HD, and Pancreatic Deficiency!!
