Actually, I believe that there is a little more history to it than this.
Unfortunately, I believe that I read about it in either Malclolm Willis's book
or possibly Jane Bennet's, but I am not at home to look it up. I think that at
the time of accepting the standard there was discussion of making the breed
name just German Shepherd or German Shepherd Dog as we know it today. If I
remember, there was some rationale to adding "Dog" above and beyond what has
been said tdoday. I will see if I can find it tonight. Thanks much. Cynthia
