Since I have been by-laws chair, I say let someone else do it!! LOL
The problem with doing the Board and the Judges by petition (more the board
than judge I think) is that you have a specific number of slots to fill
and certain requirements, especially for some of the officer positions. What
would happen if you had only 3 petitions for the Board (and don't tell me
you'd be grateful because the Board would be smaller - that is a different
by-law issue).? Judges would not be as big a problem to do this way. You
only need 3 plus a couple of back-ups in case of emergency. Most persons
who judge are thrilled to be nominated to judge. They would just have to
get someone to do a petition for them.

I don't see a down side to it at all. It may even the playing field a bit
for potential candidates, too.
