So glad you are ok. We were also worried about Peggy Douglas who seems to be
alright. She lives in the neighborhood of my son. He and his family are ok
but just like you have suffered a lot of damage around the house, he needs a
new roof and therefore the inside is somewhat damaged, porch is gone and
lots of trees down, well, the usual. The last time I talked with him they
did not have any electricity, perhaps that has changed as well. His cell
phone is filled up so I cannot call him.

Hello Helen and the list,
Have had so many emails, may take a bit to answer, so thought I would post
in the interim.
First I have had a change to be online. We are still without power but
have
generators going, but at $35. a day to run them, sure hoping the electric
crew come soon.
John and I and they dogs suffered no injuries. The house has damage, but
nothing we cannot repair. Lots of tree's down....a tornado just missed us
by
100 yards and took out a complete forest across the road from us.
Our cell phones are not working well...think many towers may be out of
commission but the house phone has stayed in service.
Went out for supplies today and discovered that almost half of Beaumont has
already got power on. The town of Lumberton just north of there is mostly
back on already. There are crews from Georgia, Alabama, Arkansas that I
have
seen working around the clock to patch us up again. Hospitals are all up
and
running, Walmarts, Home depots, etc and even the big Parkdale Mall has power
and is running to normal.
Have heard some strange rumors about the national...guess some have been on
the list. One about the windows on the 19th floor of the host hotel
out......that was a hotel in Houston, not Beaumont. Heard the city was
flooded. That
too in incorrect. Mostly there is typical hurricane damage.....lot of
tree's and branches down, roofs damaged (ours included). I know the coast
was
very hard hit but we and Beaumont are a good bit inland. I am sure within
another week or so most everything will be in order, so not to worry
people. Still
amazes me that people from the north being at the Canadian national know
more than us living locally. 3 days after a hurricane is a little soon to
be
chicken little!
Take care all..........have to rest to be able to have the strength to cut
more tree's up tomorrow!
