Well of course he should have been euthanized previously when the HUMANS
knew he was a problem.
But, a dog can't take himself down to the vet and request to be put down.
Ergo... it was the OWNERS fault for not having properly dealt with the
problem before.

I find it truly amazing that so many people are saying this dog was not at
fault. This dog had already shown that he would do this. He should have been
humanely euthanized at that time. Taking a dog by the collar is not grounds
for a death sentence for the owner. - or for any human who has been caring
for an animal. There ARE bad dogs - regardless of how they became 'bad'. If
he had already almost killed this woman who fed him and cared for him simply
for taking him by the collar, his time was up. Yes, this could have been
prevented - by responsible dog ownership - which would have meant humane
euthanization for a dangerous animal.
A dog's life span is short and it's loss is always tragic but the loss of
an innocent human life in such a manner is far more tragic than the
euthanization of an animal that has shown he will maul a person with little
provocation.
