I agree, Cynthia. As a breeder of show dogs, we always want that "star".
But
over the last 20 years , two of my best friends, and greatest dogs (Nitro
notwithstanding)
were not show stars. They were, and are 1/2 German , 1/2 American showline
dogs....running partners, baby sittters, personal protection, therapy, puppy
sitters and clowns..all in the same dog. Greatest dogs ever. One is a
Nitro son.
Nitro himself is that way, and also fits into that rarely attained
catagory.....he is a unique combo of show ring star and amazing family
companion and personal protection dog to the max. He now resides on our
couch, or bed, stealing slippers and shoes, and babysitting his grand kids ,
"showing them the ropes". I saw the greatest thing the other day...it was
sunset and Nitro was trotting up our fenceline about 200 feet away,
followed by his 3 y/o son, and his 13 week old grandson...it was one of
those breathtaking, eye watering moments...I will never forget that sight.
Three generations, all in a line.
I wish I had my camera.
Now at nearly ten, Nitro eats steak over each of his meals (no, I'm not
kidding, lol) and is KING OF HIS CASTLE. He is still stubborn and
opinionated and funny, and very full of himself..lol... He is my heart and
soul. I doubt I will ever own or be owned by another like him. But I
digress..
Stars come in all forms, but I guess that is a bit different than Barbara's
original post, where I think she was talking about show ring stars?? I
think , anyway.
