Caveat Emptor...................and..................you get what you pay for!!!
Good, experienced handlers are good judges of dogs....they know where and when
to enter, they know what judges may like your dog and what judges probably
won't like your dog. They get to know your dog's personality and
quirks....they learn how to handle each individual dog they take on, to it's
best advantage. They advise you on conditioning, weight, feed, supplements.
They are worth their weight in gold. And when you take advantage of their
knowledge and experience, you save tons of money..........in the long run!!
AND...sometimes they can even teach you how to double handle without yelling at
you and hurting your feelings!! :-) :-)
I admire almost every handler I have ever worked with, from the Old Pro, Jim
Norris, to my current handler, JR Alcantara. Over many years, only a minority
have not behaved admirably, and, sometimes you just have to bite the bullet and
learn your lesson(s) the hard way!!

I've always thought of handling fees as cost per point. That is, it is not a
comparison of dollars per class or travel expenses, but the overall cost of
the points. If I pay Rumplestiltskin to handle and he charges $25.00 and we
get 25 single points in five years, and 500 shows, then he is the most
expensive. But if I pay Joe Slick $150.00 per show and we win 3, five point
shows, then he is cheaper.
But then, I was never good at math, or handling!
