If you took those same dogs on a true loose leash from the first or second lap they would be doing the same thing most likely roach, dive down in the front, drag their toes, what ever it is that dog might do because it is faulty. So make them gait those however many laps... Although they would be more tired after pulling and building different mussels I would think, other than for gating and the faults you were hoping to see would scream at you a little louder, LOL.
