In your post you mention "correct gait with a soft back". I am not sure if
that is possible. The gait might appear temporarily correct but in time will
no longer be so. My simple analogy regarding backs is that the hind quarter is
the engine, the back is the drive shaft and the front is the steering wheel
plus shock absorbers. A whippy drive shaft is a disaster waiting to happen.
Soft backs are a definite no no to a herding animal that is expected to work
for long periods of time. IMHO D.D.
