to go through extensive training. I know that to Allow a service dog you
have to show proof before boarding a plane. What kinda proof not sure. *
It is actually remarkably easy to show "proof" to qualify to bring your dog
on the plane, as airlines allow non-service dogs, completely untrained
dogs, provided someone has a medical need and is somehow helped by that
dog, according to a doctor. Add to that there are very easy, multiple ways
to "show proof" when flying. Again, this is the Air Carrier Access Act.
That is why I see so many dogs acting out and behaving badly with owners
taking them on planes in recent years. It is way worse than what I
experience on the ground, and at least there, I can have those dogs removed.
The law is actually FAR more restrictive when on the ground in places of
public accommodation, where the ADA governs. Only service dogs are
permitted, period. And the law (ADA) empowers businesses to take several
steps to verify that it is a service dog. It further grants businesses
rights to restrict even the access of service dogs when they are not
behaving appropriately. THAT is your "proof."
Now if businesses would properly follow that, that would be lovely. . . .
Add to that the public becoming better educated about this process/the law
on service dogs and insisting on this from businesses.
I can't imagine what "proof" you think that a person could carry with him
that would solve the problem, but it doesn't exist. The public needs to
figure this out and understand why that is.
