Thought I might address this, although it has been addressed by greater minds
than my own already.
Since our list system will not allow lengthy posts, and mine usually are, I
will address what I see as several different issues by separate posts.
They will follow shortly.
I am also copying this to each of our board members and that is my first issue:
1. The board is not a single entity. It is comprised by people we elected, If
we do not like what they do we need to address them and include them in our
discussions.
They should do the same thing and show the same courtesy and respect to us
- separate post!
2. To quit the club does not solve problems it centralizes them. That is, some
have already reacted by resigning from the GSDCA, but this is club is not owned
by the board of directors buy cumulatively by every member. To quite out of
disagreement empowers that which we disagree with, so get tough and hang in
there. The voice of descent is needed to keep the club out of a power structure
where the elite rule the silent. Just look at our nation for an example.
3. To boycott the nationals does the same thing. It simply reduces the dissent
without a direct voice to the leaders. There are many National I have not been
able to attend for various reasons do not dismantle the club or the voice of
dissent to make a point. It seldom makes a point. Be direct.
4. In the Bcc box (blind copy box) this email is going to all of the board of
directors and officers of the GSDCA. I want to be open in my communications and
reasoning with them and expect the same thing in return.
5. Secrecy is the enemy of relationships. To vote in executive session should
always be reserved for sensitive personnel matters or matters of discipline,
not policy that affects the entire membership.
To do so reveals a fear of those we serve and that is intolerable in a free
society or a honorable club.
6. To reveal a decision made in secret without providing the rationale is
equally grievous. The membership should always be considered as equals in
intelligence, concern and value in our communications. If we cannot understand
and take it, then the error might be in our intellect, emotional stability or
it might be in the lack of forthright and open communication.
I remember serving on the board and taking my laptop to my chair with me. Some
objected, but my justification was that we were there to serve the membership
and if open communication with them hindered our agenda or discussions, then
our agenda and discussions needed to be corrected not the members.
