Rest assured that this list is not being used for anything but communication
between all of you. There are rules, and I would wager that without them the
list could not have survived its first year, much less so many years since.
There have been people who did not agree with, or could not adhere to the
rules, and therefore they are no longer members. There are others who have
been on
and off of moderated posts, but always for reasons that had to do with
maintaining peace on the list. Without that peace, few of you would remain
interested and the list would die. I know that I am often embarrassed for my
peers
when I see controversy and personal attacks make it through to the list. Even
I
would not maintain interest if I had to read one battle after another, day
after day. As an administrator, I see who's posts are being monitored each
day,
and if I don't already know why, I ask for and receive an explanation from
the administrator who did the setting. If I do not agree with the reason, we
discuss the matter as a group until its settled. Since none of us are here all
of the time, that is the best way for things to run. I will also add that even
when a lister's post is being monitored, always for logical reasons, it is
extremely rare that one of those posts is not sent on to the list for all to
see, and Margy has been doing most of that work.
If there is personal gain in being an administrator of this list, I've yet to
see it. I stay on because I believe the list is good for the breed. I
believe the other admins share the same sentiment.
