By definition,conformation judging always has and always will contain a
degree of subjectivity,and that includes the vaunted German judging. I don't
think there is any more or any less confidence in conformation judging than
there ever has been."Young blood" that is spending "thousands of dollars" on
German bred dogs,and then "more thousands on training" is rich young
blood,not average working class young blood in a troubled economy with
soaring gas prices. Shrinking conformation entries are largely,but not
totally,about money. The biggest reason that things are changing is that
that is what everything does.

I think is it related to the fact that the SV way requires that the dogs
MUST achieve a measured score in performance - it is not so subjective, it
is performance training that is very fulfilling to the owner who has
developed the natural ability of the GSD & sees the dog perform according to
certain criteria. There is a lot of effort and training that goes into it
and the titles are very meaningful to the owners. On top of that is the
conformation part BUT performance must be there also. There is a huge
increase in rally, and agility, the satisfaction comes from meeting or
exceeding the criteria & that criteria is spelled out, something like the
hunter jumper competition, knock down a rail, you receive a fault. Many
feel that conformation judging is too subjective - one person's opinion.
For some reason there does not seem to be great deal of confidence in
conformation judging these days.

I know I keep bringing this up but we have to ask ourselves Why is it that
the young blood will spend Thousands of dollars on a German bred dogs. Spend
more thousands on training the dog. What do the SV style shows have that we
don't? What do they do that we don't? Trust me it isn't a money thing. They
are more than willing to spend money. What can we do to be come more youth
friendly?
I know one thing that we need to do is to REALLY Promote our performance
dogs.
