Helen,
That was EXTREMELY exciting to read!!! Wow!!!! But, not shocking since Don
Quixote was German bred on top and bottom with nice ScH lines mixed in!!! But,
this reinforces to me that combining the lines can create a great dog!!!! It
seems those early German crosses were quite versatile dogs. I wonder why people
stopped mixing the bloodlines when the dogs seemed so nice when combining the
lines.

My question is.....have some breeders of American bloodlines, through selective
breeding, bred traits that are rewarded in the conformation ring at the expense
of proper working ability and temperament? It looks like it has been decades
since an American bred (American bloodlines top and bottom through 5
generations) has been able to acquire a Championship in the ring and earn a ScH
or HGH title. I know that Darby Dan has a working dog that just stepped into
the AKC ring and finished his Championship and a top VA german showline with a
ScH 3 has a couple majors but that is all I know about due to my limited
knowledge.
