amen, evan! i have stood next to a group judge who put up a "face" and then asked that "face", after he had put him up, if his dog was "any good." wonderful. great for the breed. we used to have a weekend in northern CA that was wonderful - a specialty on Saturday and an AB on sunday. the AB club was smart - every year, they asked the specialty club to recommend a judge, who they hired. they had a huge ring, on the grass, usually away from most of the other rings (because of its size). almost without exception, whoever entered on saturday, entered on Sunday and it meant 2 strong majors every time. well, one year we took 2 bitches. one was a very young class bitch and the other was a special. on saturday, the class bitch was RWB and the special was BOB. on sunday, the class bitch was WB and the special was BOB. now, this special was the pacific coast victrix, futurity AND maturity winner, 3 times U.S. select, the #1 specialty GSD in the U.S. she was undefeated in her entire career as a special. can we all agree that she wasn't a slouch? well, we waited all day for group. gail sprock waited all day for group. the breed judge waited all day for group. so many friends and fellow GSD enthusiasts stayed and waited all day for the group. the group judge TURNED HIS BACK ON THE BITCH AND DID NOT EVEN LOOK AT HER AS SHE GAITED AROUND THE RING. when group judging was over, gail approached this "judge" (and, yes, i use the term VERY loosely) and asked him why he hadn't even given the GSD the respect of watching as she gaited. his answer was "I DO NOT LIKE GERMAN SHEPHERDS." i never forgot it and neither did many of those there that day. i never entered another AB. that was 19 years ago. enough said. diane Diane Silver-Strasser Silstra German Shepherds _Skatiebug'z_ (http://skatiebugz.shutterfly.com/) The online store for everything German Shepherd and then some! _http://skatiebugz.blogspot.com_ (http://skatiebugz.blogspot.com/) Skater's Blog In a message dated 4/6/2010 4:02:26 P.M. I spend most of the time shaking my head when I leave an all-breed show. And, the word on this judge was that she knew a good German shepherd. Of course, I also was told she had lost the sight in one eye, and had a stye on the other eye. She was, however, very pleasant. ============================================================================ POST is Copyrighted 2009.
