Now Evan, tell the whole story.
The bitch that beat Honey that day finished and I believe that she was a BIF
bitch, with majors under specialty judges. She even took a BOB over Ch.
Harley, and other Specials, from the Open class, a few weeks earlier.
Honey won her majors while handled by professional handler(s). When you show
her, she is so very happy to be just running and romping next to you that no
one can see her movement; when Summer showed her, well, she did her best with
Honey, but, she is a very small child; Honey never lifted her head more than 6
inches from the floor. If her collar had been up higher and had you doubled
her, she maybe would have done better?
Harley went BOB that day; must have been his good feet, (or a handler who
showed him to his best), eh? :-)
All of our dogs competing that day had Specialty wins, under good, experienced
Specialty judges....judges who have judged our National and/or other big,
prestigious Specialties. All three of us have good dogs. All three of us have
equal chances of winning when our dogs are well-groomed and well-handled.
Don't you always say that you would rather lose while handling your own dog,
than win with a handler on your dog?? Be careful what you wish for!! :-)

..........................I attended a few all-breeds in the last month. On one
Sunday I allowed
Summer, (a nine year old child) to take my bitch into the ring. This bitch has
four majors under people such as Fran Fold.
There were only two bitches in Open. When she went in, (in front) the judge
went up to her and asked her where her mother was? Summer pointed out her
mother, but told the judge this was not her bitch.
The judge then put the other bitch in front before doing anything with
them, and walked to the ring steward. I overheard her tell him, "If the dogs
start to fight, grab the little girl." To me that told me we had a judge
who had no knowledge of German shepherds, and didn't intend to look at them.
The other bitch won, and was a very good bitch. But, I talked to the judge,
(who was very nice), and she told me that we had a terrible situation in
the breed because the feet weren't tight any more. She thought they should
have feet as good as dobermen.
Every few years I try to go back in the all-breed ring. Then I bitch slap
myself upside the head, and stay away for another couple of years. I spend
most of the time shaking my head when I leave an all-breed show.
And, the word on this judge was that she knew a good German shepherd. Of
course, I also was told she had lost the sight in one eye, and had a stye on
the other eye. She was, however, very pleasant.
