I don't think AKC wants to get rid of the Specialty clubs. They want them
so they can promote their breeds. Make sense to me. I know we were having
matches, meet the breed, training classes etc. and advertised this for GSDs.
Now that it looks like we will no longer have shows we will not be doing
this so the GSD breed will not be promoted as much in this area. I really do
not think this is what AKC wants.

Wouldn't that be rather self-defeating and self-destructive? If AKC is so
evil and money-hungry, as some seem to prefer to think, how can they make
money destroying their customers? Makes no sense to me.

Having been a show chair & treasurer for a specialty club and a treasurer
for an all breed club...I can tell you the following
1. all clubs both all breed and specialty clubs pay AKC $3.50 per entry
for
conformation & obedience
2. AKC member all breed clubs pay AKC $25.00 membership dues...this
entitles
them to 1 show with no application fees and the second show is $30.00
3. Specialty clubs must pay dues to the parent club The GSDCA dues per
specialty club is $80.00 without this AKC will NOT approve a show
4 Specialty clubs pay an application fee of $100.00 for conformation &
obedience per day
5. AKC charges both all-breed and specialty clubs $100.00 per day for
Rally
plus $3.00 per entry
I am sure they would like to get rid of the specialty clubs by bleeding
them
dry with much higher fees than the all breed clubs pay

Having been a member of some specialty clubs over the years, and quitting
a
couple of them in disgust, mainly due to their lack of following
parliamentary procedures and other, somewhat unethical and dubious
behavior,
I would think that the AKC has more problems with Specialty clubs and
shows
than they do with All-Breed clubs and shows.
One can't generally enter all-breed shows after closing; one can not have
attacks on dogs, and/or people, ignored as easily at All-Breed shows,
amongst other breeches of AKC rules. I have seen some of the paper work
submitted to the AKC after a specialty show. It is amazing, to me, that
anyone gets their points/awards recorded correctly after some of these
events.
I may be making a huge leap of logic here, but, perhaps Specialty clubs
and
shows COST the AKC much more time than the all-breeds do? After all, time
IS money!! Just a thought.

I had an interesting off-list exchange of information and I thought it
might be an interesting topic on-list.
I was not aware of the large difference in what AKC received in fees
from All Breed clubs and specialties. Nor was I aware of the
difference in what AKC charged specialties daily to hold specialty
shows. I tried to find logic in this discrepancy and the only thing I
could think of was that AKC gets more of that $3.50 per entry fee from
the AB shows, and are trying to make up the difference by charging
more for the Specialty Clubs. Another possible thought (probably way
off base and uncharitable, but then....) is that AKC is pushing the
specialty clubs to join with AB clubs in some fashion. Since many of
you know the inner workings of this much more than I, please join in.
