Having been in this breed for over 40 years and judging more than 35 years,
it is hard to judge without a friend entered under you.I will use the time
worn statement that "I judge the dog not the owner" but often times you know
who the dog belongs to. If you have been in the breed and active for a
long time, one usually has many friends so if your friends do not show under
you that your entry will be significantly lower.
How does a judge know who the dog belongs to? That is one of the
consequences of double handling. Any judge who says he doesn`t see the
occasional double handler most probable doesn`t see the dogs as well either.
That`s my story and I am sticking to it. D.D.
P.S. The only time friends mutually agreed not to show under each other was
the four years I was on the GSDCA Board. We decided it did not look right
for Board members to show to each other.
