Hi Peter
I’ve now owned 4 TVRs in the order of Red Rose Tuscan, Chim, Tamora and now
currently own a T350.
Each bring them own quirks and joys. The Tuscan was an absolute nut job, I
struggled to keep her in the straight line but out of the four it was
definitely the most striking in looks and got the most attention.
Chim had a lovely burble and was my most reliable. Trouble is it didn’t give me
as much excitement to drive than any of the other 3. It barely ever turned
heads and I never got asked about it in petrol stations.
Tamora was great fun and very well planted on the road, handling was extremely
stable compared to the Tuscan.
But my most favourite of all has to be the T350 which I bought from Str8six who
rebuilt to a 4.0 engine. It combines the excellent handling of the Tamora but
retains the thrill and gorgeous looks of the Tuscan and definitely turns heads
and gets lots of attention at petrol stations as they are much rarer than the
Chim. Most normal people on the street have never seen a T350.
So all in all, the T350 has my vote all day long. Go for it, you only live once!

normality returns later in the year…
My thought is not as tragic as it sounds as I have long harboured a desire for
a T car. Not a Tuscan, as some might think, but a T350. It’s a step many have
taken but am I ready to swap out the V8 rumble for the straight 6 rasp? I’m
really not sure... I know the best advice is to drive one (or some) and judge
from there. But I think a proper test drive is around 300 miles and I can’t see
that happening. The T350 seems like a great car for short blasts, as I reckon
you probably have to drive it harder to get the best from it. The Chimaera is a
great all-rounder, especially for longer journeys; big boot, comfortable seats
and more relaxing to drive, etc. The T350 seems a bit more ‘special’ though as
they’re quite rare and stunning to look at, right?. The running cost are higher
though, as parts are more expensive. Hmm….
According to those in the know the chassis doesn’t seem to suffer from the
heavy corrosion problems of the Chimaera, so that’s good. However, the
reliability and maintenance of the S6 is a worry. After spending 8 years
developing what I believe is one of the most reliable Chimaera 450s around is
this something I really want to do? If you don’t know my car, R450 WOW, see the
November 2019 edition of Sprint article titled ‘Future-Proofing the Marque’ to
give an overview of the work done. It’s extensive! Maybe I am mad to consider
parting with it having got it how I want it but that’s missing the point. And
I’m not getting any younger… So, to T or not to T? It’s the weekend. Discuss….
Regards,
Peter
PS. Anyone want to buy a really well sorted Chimaera 450 – maybe? But it won’t
be cheap. Beware, I may just pull the plug.
