I like Hiro’s additions and clarifications. Couple more concerns:
· Some signage at the entrance to tell people we and they are to do is
necessary. [I see more people not wearing masks than those who do.] We should
limit the participation to the folks who observe the Covid guidelines that we
display upon their entry to the viewing area. This should be explicit so they
know the ground rules that we are applying to protect them from our volunteers
and vice versa – and they must know what they are required to do to participate.
· I would consider one of those forehead thermometers be used as people
come in line. We don’t need to be sued because we enabled the vector to infect
everyone in line or who use the scope.
· We might also consider having our members who are standing at the
scopes and being exposed acknowledge that they are doing this voluntarily and
will not hold SDAA liable for any adverse health condition that might arise.
Let’s be careful.

I agree with Mike. Alcohol concentration needs to be higher.
In biological labs to eliminate contamination in cell culture, we use 70%
Ethanol.
As a telescope operator, I will do the following to keep it clean and protect
yourself.
Latex gloves will help protect your skin also.
1.Ware disposal Latex Glove
2.Keep 70% Ethanol in spray bottle
3.Sanitize glove wared hand by spraying 70% ethanol and rubb until it dry
4.Splay alcohol wipes and clean focus knob and eyepieces
5.You can directly spray ethanol to the area you want to clean and wipe
*Be careful NOT to splay alcohol directly to mechanical components like gears
to prevent damage.
Step 1-3 is a standard procedure for preparing cells in clean condition and we
know it works.
Hiro.

It sounds good to me. My only suggestion Is that the hand sanitizer mix be
reversed. I believe 25% is too low. Here’s my source.

Board Members,
At my request, Dennis Ammann has prepared a plan that might be used to host a
Star Party at KQ Ranch on June 27. His contact has submitted a request to their
corporate office to proceed as described here:
Submitted by Dennis Ammann:
"- Upon set up, viewing, and pack-out, SDAA astronomers will wear masks inside
the tennis/basketball court.
- At each scope, there will be red glow tape or red glow stick on the ground
every 6 feet, to establish a line for the observers.
- Eye pieces and focus knobs will be wiped down after each person views a
celestial object with a solution of 75% water and 25% alcohol.
- If a group requests a constellation talk or other presentation, the group
will move to the basketball court side so that everyone can be separated by 6
feet.
Hopefully the above four precautions will satisfy the California requirements
and be approved by the SDAA Board of Directors to maintain 6 feet social
distance, provide clean equipment, and the utilization of masks."
I, personally, believe this meets the requirements under the current state
guidelines. I also believe that we will be able to proceed with this kind of
policy and practice at a few of the public parks sometime in July.
I am recommending this plan to the BoD and asking for Board review before
implementation at KQ Ranch.
Thoughts?
