Tom,

Here are pics of the loom and control (not used) that come with the Yamaha 9.9
GEX. The second pic shows the two engine kit of stainless steel parts (bundled)
Seawind provides to replace the plastic gear leaver and cable termination
provided with the GEX. A stainless steel centering bracket is provided also.

Because the start controls are on the starboard side the starboard control
needs a short loom and port a long loom. We cut the new 10 pin starboard loom
at the length required to reach the start controls and join (solder) the cut
off end to the port loom so it also reaches the starboard start control. It so
happens the total cable length is exactly what is required. The soldered joint
is inside the boat.

Sorry to keep asking. I do not understand what you meant about the "new 10 pin
loom needs to be cut and joined to have one short and one long length".

        Tom, I have no information about the Yamaha 9.9 GPXR and would
certainly advise that the electric tilt mechanism is not suitable. We now
install the Yamaha 9.9 GEX with a stainless steel adaptor kit A$366 (each
motor) to eliminate the plastic cable connectors, invert the new external gear
change and centering bracket. The new 10 pin loom needs to be cut and joined to
have one short and one long length. The starter panel is very simple wiring of
the off/on/start wires with hoer meter connected to the on terminal. Kind

        Not aware of any of this as no one locally has re-powered, other than
Joe Weathers a couple of years ago. I have copied the scoaa owners group on
this e-mail  so hopefully someone will come back with some ideas. Where did you
get the engines?

Kurt,

We are in Shelter Bay trying to install 2 new Yamaha 9.9 GPXR motors. We have
run into some problems. The power tilt mechanism is too long for the existing
motor mount. Graham had led us to believe the GPXR was the correct motor and
apparently the GEXR would have worked better (not available in the US). We are
attempting to address tghis issue by raising the old motor mount 2".

The other issue we have is that the old 9.9s had a 7 pin wiring harness and the
new 9.9s have a 10 pin wiring harness. Are you aware of any adapters or do we
have to find a 10 pin harness and rewire the ignition?

Have you had any other Seawind 100s upgrade their motors recently?

        The 9.9 has a changed a bit over the years, and sometime varies
depending on wether it is a domestic (US) or international engine. Either will
fit in the Seawind, just need to make sure it is the 25" shaft, high thrust
with remote control and electric start and you are good.

I am the owner of a 2000 Seawind 1000 hull #78 (Mañana).  I need to replace the
engines and I wanted to ask if you have any suggestions for new engines that
will fit the 1000 footprint.  I am currently in Panama and have received a
quote for the Yamaha 9.9 GPXR.

1. Is this the correct engine for the Seawind 1000

2. Is this the BEST available engine for the Seawind 1000

3. Will this engine fit in the seawind engine compartments

Any help you can provide will be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
