Dear Jean,
Over the years an several copies of papers have been saved by indexers and sent
to John. From these saved copies volunteers have been providing lookups when
requested. To try to relieve volunteers of some work the Ryerson Index
Committee have decided to create the Ryerson Notice Repository where notices
will be available without going through the lookup process, which I must say
has worked extremely well for a number of years.
John has uploaded a lot of the notices at
https://www.dropbox.com/sh/pa0h6r77t5hkbku/AAAqPRusq_qTi2oT1aCmyJpaa?dl=0 so ;
you might like to have a look what papers are there.
This appeal was sent out for anyone with other notices to submit them to John
if they want them included in the Repository.
When you submit your submissions to John they go into Dropbox, but at a
different location to the Repository.
Regards, Bill
John, Could you please tell what is all this about.
I have never heard of it is it available to all indexers?
another thing is I have never used dropbox could you please tell me about that
is it only for certain newspaper indexers.
Maybe I don't go to the right place to know about these things.
I set out in yesterday's email - any newspaper with a masthead of "The"
followed by a single word has had the "The" left in the folder name, and
appears alphabetically under "The". There were only four. I did this because
the single names (Chronicle, Observer etc) didn't work very well on their own.
Now - what other scans are out there in people's private caches?
If you have runs of a particular paper which you are happy to include in RNR,
please contact me offlist and I'll set you up with a dropbox connection to
transfer the files.
John
