- HB 356, Cannabis Regulation Act, sponsored by Reps. Javier Martinez, "Moe"
Maestas, Daymon Ely, Deborah Armstrong, and Angelica Rubio, is scheduled to be
heard on Saturday 23 February in the House Judiciary Committee. The committee
convenes at 9:00. This bill is a plan for regulating and licensing cannabis
production and distribution, and regulating the sale and consumption to and by
persons over the age of 21.
- Please email or call the members of the committee listed below to express
your support for this bill.
- You can prepare, and then copy and paste your message into emails to the
committee members listed at the bottom of this message.
- You can click on the name in the list below to open an email to the
corresponding legislator. If that doesn't work for you, you can go to

Your message
- Remember, the principal purpose of the message is to show your support for
the bill.
- However, a brief justification for your position is helpful though not
essential, to let the legislator know that you are familiar with the bill. Here
are possible reasons (but please use your own words)
- It's time that we regulate and tax recreational cannabis since
prohibition has not worked in 50+ years and has had terrible consequences.
- Border Patrol seizure figures demonstrate that marijuana flows have
fallen continuously since 2014, when states began to legalize marijuana. After
decades of no progress in reducing marijuana smuggling, the average Border
Patrol agent between ports of entry confiscated 78 percent less marijuana in
fiscal year (FY) 2018 than in FY 2013.
- Cannabis has been proven time and again to be less dangerous than
tobacco and alcohol which we regulate and tax.
Tips for emails:

support, you may wish to acknowledge that by expressing your thanks.

example, use of the phrase "...your bill..." in the message) while expressing
your disagreement.
- If your own legislator is a member of the committee, acknowledge that in
your message.
