- HB 28, Resource Sustainability & Security Act, sponsored by Rep. Melanie
Stansbury and supported by Governor Lujan Grisham, is scheduled to be heard on
Saturday 23 February in the House Energy, Environment & Natural Resources
Committee. The committee convenes at 2:00. This bill establishes the
Sustainability and Resilience Council, composed of representatives of twelve
key offices and departments with responsibilities for identifying and assessing
the impacts of climate change, and for developing a plan for a more sustainable
and resilient future for the state.

your support for this bill.
- You can prepare, and then copy and paste your message into emails to the
committee members listed at the bottom of this message.

Your message
- Remember, the principal purpose of the message is to show your support for
the bill.
- However, a brief justification for your position is helpful though not
essential, to let the legislator know that you are familiar with the bill. Here
are possible reasons (but please use your own words)
- The rise in average temperatures has especially severe consequences in
New Mexico, because of our arid climate and limited sources of water.
- Developing a government-wide plan based on the analyses by each of the
government offices with responsibilities that are impacted by climate change
will provide the guidance needed for establishing responses that minimize the
damage to our state.
- Meanwhile, development of the technologies and measures that are
identified in the plan as needed responses will contribute to the economy of
the state.
Tips for emails:

the legislation is scheduled in "his or her" committee.
- If you are addressing the sponsor (see above) of legislation that you
support, you may wish to acknowledge that by expressing your thanks.

example, use of the phrase "...your bill..." in the message) while expressing
your disagreement.
