This is most interesting. I am VERY familiar
with MacArthur's farewell address, having had to
deliver it in High School oratory when I was a
member of the NFL (wake up, guys: the National
Forensic League, not the National Football
League!) And I have interviewed several guys who
heard MacArthur deliver the address. MacArthur
was an ingenious author and quite capable of
producing a phrase, and I shall henceforth give him credit for the line.
