Two or three years ago I bought a Rolleigrid, at least the seller said it
and it came within a plastic envelope with the F&H shield. I decided to try
it on the 2,8C ground glass screen during my recent travel. I kept in mind
the screen side issue to place the Rolleigrid; it looks clean without
scratches.
My 2, 8C focusing screen is also clean and clear, however brightness
diminishes on the image edges, My first opinion was good, the ground glass
image appeared very bright and with even illumination including the edges.
It was a good experience to shoot with the additional screen if the camera
was focused at infinity, but problems began when I tried to focus closer
subjects. It was impossible to do fine focusing using the additional
screen, the image was bright but I couldn't distinghish the best focusing
point, subject looked always the same turning the focusing knob
I finally focused without the supposed Rolleigrid and could do it using the
ground glass, no problems. I suspect I got one of those screens made in the
Far East within a Rolleigrid envelope because according several users
comments in the Web , the true Rolleigrid improves the ground glass image
at any situation.
