Elias,

I'm with Bill. I don't use Picasa much myself, but I have recommended
it to my wife (not 83, but might as well be when it comes to
computers) and my mother (who is only 78). Both use it without
problems.

It has the added advantage that it is based on non-destructive
editing. If they make a really bad mistake, they can always retrace
their steps back to the original.

It has good interfaces to printing services when they want prints too.
Just click and order.

When they connect up to their camera or memory card, Picasa will be
one of those things that pop up and offer to take care of their
pictures. Hard to beat, if you want to avoid support in the future :-)
