Convensional wisdom is that it was a bit of trickery on the part of PanAm that 
convinced Boeing to develop the first high capacity high altitude passenger 
jet. Marc's history regarding the Dash-80 is interesting...

Marc is wrong on this, I hate to say.  The 707 came before the KC-135
or the E3A. Urban legend again.

Don't bring up the B-47 or B-52.  There was no commonality.
