I couldn't agree more - depends on who's doing the job. I think the lesson here is simply that beater 2.8's may have more serious issues lurking beneath the peeling leather, cleaning marks, etc. They were well used, maybe abused, by pros and seem to often be either in pretty bad shape. Either that or they are in just mint condition stright off of a collector's shelf and available to you for only $1,700.00.
