At 05:48 AM 4/2/2017, you wrote:

Nothing wrong with some dings and dents on a used camera, I once dropped a Pentax MX and it rolled over at least ten steps, and worked like before, even though it did not look like before.

But when a single instance of distraction really destroys a camera, these are horrible moments.

One of my worst ones was when I dropped a backpack including a Rolleiflex SL 66 SE in 2001. The camera in the backpack was inside a well padded Lowepro case but still ? the weight of the old 4/40 Distagon on it bent the lens rail and smashed the exposure meter resistor under the mount, which was already unavailable then.

Never dropped a Rollei but on a ski trip, long ago, I took a Nikkormat and went on a night ski tour. Cross country skis, new to me. I had a flash which mounted on the hot shoe above the viewfinder. First step off the bus, onto an icy road and down I went. I finally learned how to get the camera apart and fixed the mount. Now, of course that camera probably sells for $30, or even less, but it was painful at the time.

As a side comment, I saw a relevant cartoon in the paper today. A mother is looking at family pictures in an album. A child asks where the pictures of her younger sister are. Answer, "We went digital after she was born and all the pictures are in the cloud."

I take a few hundred pictures when on trips but almost never print a single one. Something wong here.
