Speaking as a retired electrical engineer, I am wondering if Rodgers organs
were so poorly designed that they are not impervious to power surges. I
have worked on and designed consumer electronics products and one of the
first requirements was that they withstand normally occurring power surges.
Today there are various devices that can be built in so as to prevent
damage. In addition there are external surge protectors that should be used
there a product is not ruggedly designed. Automotive electronics are built
to withstand a discharge from a spark plug wire that comes loose and falls
on an electronic module, as well as the load dump occurring if the battery
connection is loose while the engine is running.
In short no one should need to insure a product against power surges.
