I've used the Telemetrum for a couple years and I've been pretty happy with
it. It does take some time to get used to using the system though.
One word of warning. The GPS on the TeleMetrum is not as sensitive as the
one on the TeleMega. I verified this with BDale. Mine takes about 2-3
minutes to get a lock the first time you turn it on at the launch site and
it only tracks 5-6 satellites when it does. Once it gets a lock you can
power it off but leave the battery plugged in. The next time you fire it up
it has the saved location and it usually gets lock again in about 20-30
seconds. It also does not like flying out of a tower. Both times I've used
it in a tower I could not get lock. The first time I raised the nose cone
above the tower until it got a lock and then lowered the rocket (armed)
back into the tower. The second time was my 37,789' flight at XPRS this
weekend. I decided to launch without a lock believing that it would get a
lock once it was clear of the tower. I NEVER got a single GPS packet from
the TeleMetrum. I was very lucky that Tony found my rocket.
Gene had a brand new TeleMega in one of his rockets at the launch. It got a
lock with 13 satellites in about 15 seconds. He flew out of my tower and
didn't have any problems getting a GPS lock.
I'd highly recommend that you find someone to mentor you for the first
couple flights.

However, the nickname 'telemaybe' is deserved. The manual, which is 72
pages long is extremely esoteric, and I had to spend hours troubleshooting
just to get the damn things to link to my laptop. I may not be digitally
inclined, but plenty of people smarter than me had issues as well.
Still, having the election control and tracking in a nifty bundle is cool.
I'd stay away from the telemega though; it has a tendency to fire it's
ejection prematurely.

feel like I have a decent grasp of all the altus metrum system now.
