There are actually four players in the same market: The Victor Reader
Stream, the Plex Talk Pocket, the Book Sense, and the Book Port Plus. For
the most part, they offer the same basic features. The Book Sense
recognizes more formats than the others, but the Pocket and Book Port do a
better job of recording. The Stream uses its own recording format which has
to be converted if you want to use it on any other device. The Book Sense,
Pocket, and Book Port can record in WAV or MP3 format, but the Book Port and
Pocket can also convert to DAISY.
All four players can play NLS, Learning Ally, and Bookshare books. The
reading voices on the Pocket, Stream and Book Port are the same, but the
reading voices on the Book Sense are different. On the Book Sense, the
reading and navigation voices are the same, but the other three players use
different voices for the navigation than they use for reading.
I have all four players and to me, they all have a feature or two I like and
a feature or two I do not like. If I'm going to listen to a Bookshare book,
I use the Book Sense because I like the TTS voice on it better. There were
some issues with the earlier release of the firmware that made reading
Bookshare books a bit of a hassle, but the later releases have fixed those
problems.
If I want to record something, I use the Pocket or the Book Port. I
definitely do not use the stream for that.

Why do you wish you had gone for the PlexTalk instead of the BookSense?
I have a BookSense and I'm not thrilled with it, but I thought that the
Victor Stream was its direct competitor, not the PlexTalk.
