If you have good light, DigitEyes works pretty good on an iPhone 4, but not
on an iPod 4.
And you can learn where the barcodes usually are, like near the bottom of a
can, and on the back of a box, and you can tell which side is the back
because the glued seam will always face the back, so by brushing your
fingers around a box, you can tell which corner has the glued seam.
Barcodes on bags are always on the back and near the bottom, there is
usually a seam going down the middle of the back of the bag.

Cathy, the problem is that the bar code readers for the iphone's are using
the camera to capture the barcodes., and in less you know exactly where the
code is printed it is really a shot in the dark. I tend to like the apps
that can tell you what objects are from picture matching such as Omoby, and
noogle noggles. Then there is also the viz wiz app that utilizes sighted
people that can look at your picture you can submit and they can tell you
what things are.
