Thanks for your response. Yes display is set in print layout and the
view is just 100% and nothing unusual.

Have you double checked to make sure that the display is print layout
and that the zoom isn't set to something odd?

OK that makes sense for the document created in an earlier version as
that is true for what I am working on.
I tried both key combinations with unfortunately the same result -
silence, although I see the curser moving.
Any other ideas?

Word is in compatibility mode when reading documents produced by earlier
versions.
Have you tried using both Control Right Arrow and Insert Right Arrow to
