Hi Arnie, If those older documents were created in Word 97 they just may not read. You might try saving them as RTF documents and see if they will read in either Word or Wordpad. If they were originally done in Word 2002 or 2003 I would think they would work. I did this and indeed the 2007 created document does read word by word and letter by letter with both sets of key combinations. The document indicates that it is a word 1997-2003 document. Thanks. Arnie. -----Original Message----- From: real-eyes-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:real-eyes-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Jim Ellsworth Sent: Monday, September 07, 2009 9:48 AM To: real-eyes@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [real-eyes] Re: VISTA Hi, Do you happen to know what version of Word was used to create the original documents? What happens if you create a new document in Word 2007? Can you read it using the say character and say word commands? I am having some challenges with the new system. One of the problems I have not been able to rectify is that when I am working in Word at this point when I try to have JAWS read word by word or letter by letter it will not do anything. The curser is moving but no speech is coming from JAWS. It will read line by line OK. However, when I am in Outlook it does read letter by letter and word by word. There is probably a simple solution to this that I am not identifying, can anyone help. A second thing that I am wondering about is that JAWS keeps reading that it is in "compatibility mode" when reading a document. Does anyone know what this is referencing? Thanks for your help.
