THE HOLY CROSS BLIND OUTREACH NEWSLETTER Holy Cross Lutheran Church 2003 NE Englewood Road Kansas City, MO 64118 (816) 452-9113 April Meal of the Month: April 30, from 12:00-2:00 PM GREETINGS Christ is risen. He is risen, indeed! Alleluia! With these words, Christians everywhere greet each other at this time of year. They are more than just a glad ¡§hello¡¨ or pep-us-up over a one-time event. Christ being risen, triumphant over death, rules never to die again. More than that, He is arisen, and, we too shall be raised¡Xbelievers to everlasting life and unbelievers to eternal death in hell. There is Easter¡¦s goode news! Jesus, who took on Himself our sin has conquered that sin, death, and hell for us. He has buried our sin¡Xpast, present, and future¡Xforever. Powerful, conquering Jesus was dead but now lives and reigns to all eternity! Influenced by our natural cynicism we are bound to ask: ¡§What if?¡¨ What if Christ had not been raised? (1 Cor. 15:17) If Christ is not raised, we have no hope. We live for ourselves and could care less about tomorrow. Chow down, guzzle, and an live up¡Xfor tomorrow may not come. Here again, the Gospel rings loud and clear. (1 Cor. 15:20) Christ has been raised from the dead. We who trust in Him are no longer in our sin, to be seduced, pushed or pulled by it. Rather, the same Lord Jesus, who hung CRUCIFIED on the cross, who died a real death, now forgives your sins and my sins. Conquering, powerful Jesus is also our Redeeming Lord and Savior. God the Son who died lives and rules for you and me. Now, reading the events of that first Easter may rightly cause us to stand back in awe! Earthquakes, rolling stones, angels appearing, and Roman guards suspended like dead me push us to a climax. And, that¡¦s where Jesus shows His power in having mercy. The three women saw the empty tomb and ran. Jesus met them with comfort and told them to tell His disciples¡Xand Peter¡XHe was risen. Mary Magdalene, in particular, saw the empty tomb, thought someone had taken the Lord¡¦s body, and confused Jesus for the gardener. Jesus spoke her name with compassion. Thomas doubted the disciples¡¦ word because he longed for the nail marks¡¦ proof. Jesus crashed his and the other disciples¡¦ closed-door pity-party of fear with the words, ¡§Peace be with you.¡¨ And, He showed His nail-pierced hands and spear-gouged side. Christ Jesus forgave the sins of the whole world when He died on the cross¡Xsinless Lamb for us fallen creatures. Now, Jesus is still forgiving us. How? He does it through His Word¡Xspoken, written, cleansing, and nourishing us who are His body. Because Jesus is risen from the dead, we can be confident that the daily struggles we face are not ends in and of themselves. Rather our Lord sees us through disabilities, the death of loved ones, and chronic physical and emotional illness. He sends friends and family to surround us in such times of need. He stands with us through our hurt, heartache and broken relationships. He makes vibrant our love and care for each other. The same Lord Jesus promises to return for us. Yes, our risen Lord will raise us to live with Him forever in heaven. WHO¡¦S TALKING? This month, we welcome Steve Otto, a storyteller from Gladstone as our entertainment for Saturday afternoon. Steve has been a guest for area organizations such home owners¡¦ associations. His son is Pastor Craig Otto, a pastor in nearby Lee¡¦s Summit.
