hello mike.
over on the raspberry xbmc website, they have just released the new
version of their image and in the bug fixes, they posted the following:

*USB soundcard support is available again*. Simply select 'Enable
external soundcards' in Raspbmc Settings. Thanks to 'stupid-boy' for
working on an OpenMAX ALSA sink. This is much better than the previous
Pulse Audio approach we had, because the audio and video are in sync. Be
aware that this is experimental.

Obviously sound is a big part of XBMC to say the least. would it be
worth 1 of us contacting the devs and asking them for advice? if they've
previously used pulse audio and switched to alsa, maybe they had to
resolve similar issues to do with audio and video being in sync? even if
they can't help, they could at least tell us how to get external sound
cards going? maybe that would also help?

Mo.
