I'm only loosely following the list these days due to a lot of work, so maybe this has been discussed before. But I've been thinking: wouldn't it be possible to do away with the pivot altogether and replace it with a spring leaf? I make springs professionally and I think it would be possible to replace the upper and lower bearings with either two thick leaves, or a single wide but thinner leaf that would have an angular range in the order or +-15 degrees on either side, perhaps more. What's more, it would also strengthen the self-centering effect, as the spring(s) would fight any turning effort as a linear function of the turning angle. Unaided, the springs alone couldn't fight torsional efforts very well when turning, so perhaps a pair of small guiding bearings or bushings could be added, but at least the springs would bear the entire load of the rider, which the bearings wouldn't have to withstand.

Anyway, I've been thinking about this for a while. Maybe it wouldn't provide a small-enough turning radius, and perhaps an additional static turning effort wouldn't be desirable, I don't know, I've never ridden a Python. Perhaps one of you specialists could give me an opinion?
